Who we work with
Our Speech and Language Therapists work with adults over the age of 16 who might have problems with: speaking clearly (dysarthria or dyspraxia), understanding speech or written words (aphasia), expressing themselves through speech or writing (aphasia), and fluency (stammering).
These problems can arise as a result of: stroke/head injury, neurological conditions (e.g. Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease, MS), Dementia, Cerebral palsy, Hearing Impairment, Mental health problems.
Communication difficulties may include:
- Difficulties in understanding what others are saying
- Having difficulty saying what you want to say
- Finding that you know what you want to say but can’t think of the words
- New spelling or reading difficulties
- Slurred or unclear speech
- Changes in how your voice sounds
- Stammering
What to expect when accessing our Services
Input will vary depending on the individual but will broadly include a period of assessment, treatment / rehabilitation as appropriate and advice and help to both you and those who support you. Our teams have a person centred approach and encourage individuals to be involved in setting goals around what is important to them.
